Editorial March 2022

Things are slowly getting back to normal, the old normal, not the new one as was frequently used during the pandemic. Two of the museums in the Jewellery Quarter are having more events/classes and are starting to add days they are open to visitors.

You can see these along with many other events on page 34, very different from a few months ago listing just a handful of online events.

Also, in this issue we feature another of the schools and see the intricate detail that you might not have noticed in the restoration of The Argent Centre, and how the two turrets now make the building look ‘right’ again, for which Oliver Architecture won a Conservation Award.

Sadly, there are still building in danger, and the Icknield Street School is in the ‘top 10 at risk buildings’, not only for the Victorian Society but also on the Historic England website. Such endangered buildings are few and far between and mostly on the fringes of the Jewellery Quarter, one area particularly bad with a boarded up Public House and other buildings where the only thing thriving is the Buddleia.
