A four-part creative writing workshop exploring the styles and poetic legacies of famous poets

Writing with the Poets: John Masefield

Have you ever wanted to write poetry in the style of the famous poets? Well now’s your chance to try. Join Rick Sanders from Verve for a 4-part Winter series of workshops looking specifically at the poetry, style, context and technique of four poets from history. Each month Rick will lead you through a deep-dive into the poet, their writing style, and the key attributes of their lives that has shaped their work. You will get to learn about the poet, read some examples of their work and write a poem or two in the style of that poet. This month we are looking at John Masefield, the second longest reigning poet laureate no less!

This workshop series is for experienced poets, or poets with a good understanding of writing poetry who want to develop specific skills in writing form poetry. Only suitable for adults (+16yrs).

What to Bring:
Bring your passion for words, an open heart, and a willingness to explore the world through poetry. Please bring something to write on and something to write with. All other materials will be provided. If you get a chance, read some of Tennyson’s poems before the workshop to familiarise yourself with their work.

The workshop is 2 hours in duration. Please arrive ten minutes before the session as the Hive closes at 3.30 pm and you may not be able to gain access after that.

And if you like poetry, you can return later in the day to attend the Verve Open Door, a free open mic poetry event that takes place at the Hive during the evening – you might even want to perform your poems!
