All Lit up For Christmas 2015

This great picture was taken by PCSO Matt Jones.

On Friday 13th November, after a weather forecast of high winds and pouring rain, the skies cleared and the 100 Christmas light displays were switched on to light up the Jewellery Quarter for Christmas, although Luke tells us that they lost a wrestling match when setting up the stage in the strong winds earlier in the day!

This is the highest number of lights we have ever had, with a lot of them being specially made because some of the ‘old’ lights were not repairable.

Six of the jewellers who are now retailing in the Jewellery Quarter section of John Lewis were invited to jointly switch on the lights and four of them were available to do so.

Lots of food and drinks were on hand and music was in the air, shared by a fantastic firework display.

On the Golden Square there is a 30 foot high Christmas tree which rivals the height of that in the very heart of the City Centre!

Shoppers Guide
JQBID will be producing a ‘shoppers guide’ including all retailers, to hand out to visitors to the Quarter before Christmas and will also be promoting a ‘Small Business Saturday’, getting people into the Jewellery Quarter three weeks before Christmas to do their shopping in the best place for Independent and Family-run Businesses.

Free Parking on Sundays in Vyse Street Car Park

From 6th December JQBID have paid for Vyse Street Car Park to be open and parking free of charge every Sunday running up to Christmas.

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
