Editorial August 2025

With all the best intentions of keeping the magazine on schedule it looks like this issue will be a little later than the scheduled date. Whilst not ideal, it does mean that I am able to bring you a ‘stop press’ item with the news that the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter is opening its doors finally, after closing them some 5 years ago.

The Museum’s web site says that “essential conservation work is ongoing, but we are keen to welcome you back!” It is now open from Thursday to Saturday, 10.30am – 4.00pm.
Good news indeed for the Jewellery Quarter as it is an award-winning museum and attracted a great number of visitors when the World was a slightly different place pre-Covid.

I was rather worried that it may never open again, and after all the appeals we ran years ago for donations for exhibits in this magazine which the businesses in the Jewellery Quarter donated with abundance to the Museum, that these very items might end up being put into storage or worst case scenario, chucked in a skip, and the museum sold for other purposes!

With it re-opening my worries are now over, so had better revisit the tourist guidebooks we published years ago that really do need updating and was planning to get on with this year but lost the incentive thinking the Museum had ‘gone’.
