The new buzzwords lately are ‘AI’ or Artificial Intelligence, and it seems to be everywhere. Especially on the latest version of Adobe software I use to produce this magazine. It keeps popping up giving me explanations on how to do things I do not want to do! Not that intelligent then.
That started me thinking about Star Trek of all things, and remember been on holiday somewhere in a log cabin possibly in Wales and the news was out the very first episode was to be shown in the clubhouse and it seemed like everyone on that holiday site was crammed into this room to watch it on a tiny colour TV, marvelling at the colours and gadgets.
Only one thing they got wrong – no mobile phones, and now you do not even need to phone someone, you can have a conversation with whatever AI ‘creature’ is lurking inside your phone.
Computers are not as responsive but a computer you can give instructions via voice can only be around the corner.
Now schools are talking about banning mobile phones in the same way as they banned calculators when I was just finishing school. The calculator become as common as the phone so instead of banning them, a more positive attitude and etiquette should be taught.
Like calculators banning them from schools did not make them go away, so banning the mobile will not make them go away either!
