Something that went unnoticed by The Hockley Flyer was that the British hallmarking Council would be abolished. It will become part of the Department for Business and Trade. Doesn’t have the same ring to it somehow!
The latest press release from the British hallmarking Council had a note at the end explaining briefly what was happening. ‘The BHC (British hallmarking Council) is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Business & Trade. The UK government announced in April 2025 that it will commence a review of all arms-length bodies with a view to close, merge or bring functions back into departments if their continued existence cannot be justified.
The Right Hon Peter Kyle MP announced on the 21 October 2025 that the BHC would be abolished, and its functions moved into the Department for Business and Trade.’
