Step into the Layers of History – With an Architect’s Eye!

As part of Birmingham Heritage Week 2026, join us for a guided tour that uncovers the fascinating transformation of our site — from humble back-to-back housing to a cutting-edge Victorian manufactory in 1894, and finally into the award-winning museum you see today.

Our specially created ‘Architect-tour’ offers a fresh perspective, led by a conservation architect whose passion for historic buildings brings the factory to life in unexpected ways. By examining the building’s fabric – quite literally – you’ll uncover the clever quirks and calculated choices that helped it stand the test of time. Think arched lintels, oddly-placed toilets (yes, really), and all the small details that speak volumes about the people who built and worked here.

If you’ve visited the Coffin Works before, – this tour is completely different from our usual offering. It’s perfect for curious minds, heritage fans, and anyone who’s ever thought, “I wonder why they did that?”

And for after your tour, our Café will be open on the day selling a range of refreshments.
