First JQBID Festival Takes to the Streets this Summer

This summer sees the Jewellery Quarter host another festival the first organised by the Jewellery Quarter Business Improvement District (JQBID) – a weekend of events that celebrate the diversity and creativity of the Quarter and everything in it.

The festival officially marks the opening of new public space, The Golden Square, will give visitors the chance to go behind the scenes as businesses from across the Quarter open their doors to the general public, giving visitors the opportunity to see the wide variety of creative work that takes place in the area

Running from Friday 17th till Sunday 19th July, festival-goers will be able to take a look at some of the brilliant industries that have their home in the area, including sculptors, glass makers and etchers, film makers, photographers, jewellery makers, game designer and 3D printers.

The weekend will also play host to a range of family-friendly activities, including old school games, helter-skelter, photo booths, face painting and workshops, plus plenty of free outdoor performances featuring musicians, bands, theatre and dance troupes, at The Golden Square and St Paul’s Square.

The Jewellery Quarter’s independent scene will be celebrated on Saturday 18th July as the JQ Grand Bazaar brings together vintage and crafts, whilst JQ StrEAT Market will showcase the best of the JQ’s independent food scene.

Jazz fans will also be well catered for when the JQ’s Birmingham Jazz premiere their Jazz Legends programme, featuring performances by more than a dozen international jazz artists and bands across a number of locations.

Luke Crane, manager for the Jewellery Quarter BID, said: “With the launch of the newly completed Golden Square, we’re excited to be hosting the first JQ Festival at the heart of the Jewellery Quarter. “Although the Jewellery Quarter is responsible for producing 40% of the jewellery made in the UK, there is so much more to explore in the area.

From delicious cocktails and tantalizing independent eateries and historic museums, right through to a wealth of creative and professional businesses who claim the Quarter as their home. “The JQ Festival is all about showcasing what the area has to offer and we hope that visitors will fall in love with the area as much as we have.”
