Frank Joiners Store to Close

News of the closure of Frank Joiners on 22nd August is sad but owner Ghanshyam Patel has been in touch to say: “We are retiring, having run the store for over 25 years.” It is the end of an era, and also added that they will miss all the friends they have made over this time. It has always been like an Aladdin’s cave and the ‘go to place’ for the local jewellers.

Previous owner Laurie Wylde (known as Mr Frank Joiner) retired from running the newsagent and stationery store in the Big Peg in 1995, and sadly passed away in May 2021.

There has been a ‘Frank Joiner; store in Warstone Lane since around 1887 – originally a tobacconists before becoming a stationers.

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
