On Saturday 28 April 2023 in the Jewellery Quarter there was a successful event for the King’s Coronation, held in Warstone Lane Cemetery, near Pitsford Street.
There was a performance by the local Rock Choir, vegan street food by Vegan Dhaba who have recently opened on Pitsford Street and attendance by the Jewellery Quarter Academy Cadets.
The event was held to support local businesses. Pitsford Street has been closed for several years now due to the development that is currently underway. Due to the road closure, the footfall on Pitsford Street has dropped significantly and in turn, so has the customer base.
Customers used to park down the bottom of the road, as there was once free parking available there, walk up and drop-in to the shops as they were passing by.
This hasn’t been the case in years. The businesses on Pitsford Street feel as though they have been forgotten, being ‘tucked away’ on a side road. This has been made worse due to the large development, which is continuing until midway through 2024. (Providing the timeline isn’t extended again as it has been in the past).
Eileen said: “I sold souvenirs from my shop, EAG Engraving, which is also on Pitsford Street, and we collected money for the Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal.
I wanted to increase footfall to the area and did so by holding the event.”
