AV Design – A story from Adam Veevers

‘When I started business in 1991 as AV Design, the silver trade was turbulent to say the least. However since then, working from my studio workshop in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter I have produced silverware and related items for a wide range of clients, including Robert Welch, Alessi, and Wedgwood.

I have completed many prestigious one-off silversmithing projects and have also developed products for mass manufacture.

I am now able to offer clients a full design service from concept generation, CAD development through to manufacture.

I have seen recent success with a cutlery design called ‘Skylark’ which can be found widely throughout America and Australia, and in this country, is available in Habitat.

Following my recent move of premises this year to the rear of 43 Nursery Road, I have found an increased interest in business and I am currently working on a large commission for a limited run of commemorative clocks for Wedgwood (see picture, courtesy of Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Ltd).

Also, with the launch of my website (www.avdesign.biz) earlier this year, I have experienced great interest and a marked increase in orders.

If this credit crunch, (which sounds more like a biscuit to me) is really happening, then why has my workload increased? Why am I busier than I have ever been? Why am I set to have the best year ever? Why are my hands no longer as smooth as a baby’s bottom?

The media is obsessed with the credit crunch and recession and is merely talking us into the depths of depression and gloominess. Talking negatively merely creates more negativity and I thought that I should tell my success story. I know the trade has suffered greatly in recent years and I am not dismissing this in any way whatsoever, but, if my story can bring a little encouragement, then it’s all for the good, isn’t it?”
