Breakfast in the Drop Forge

On 16th December a JQA Breakfast was held in the newly opened Drop Forge Restaurant in Hockley Street.

Birmingham’s Lord Mayor, Cllr Len Gregory and the Lady Mayoress attended and nine members of the Icknield Male Voice Choir beautifully sang some Christmas Carols and presented a very amusing Monologue. In all 43 people attended.

The Lord Mayor commented on the wonderful refurbishment job Dave Keay and Gerry Pountney had made in bringing back into use a derelict Grade II building.

The project was made more difficult by the fact that the foundations only come within a few feet of the railway tunnel (the railway runs directly underneath the building).

There is a plaque on the wall inside the building, listing the people who had given assistance in making the project possible.

The breakfast was provided free of charge by Mr Dan Auty (Manager).

Carrie Weekes also gave a short presentation regarding the Community Development Trust.

The Hockley Flyer magazine is entirely funded by the advertising, but could do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Subscribers pay only a bit more than the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
