BSW 2012 ‘Festival of Silver’

British Silver Week 2012 Festival of Silver brings together over 100 of the UK’s finest silversmiths in selling exhibitions displaying contemporary silversmithing pieces as practical and sculptural works of art. All the participating silversmiths are highly trained craftsmen with passion and talent that is demonstrated through their unique designs.

This year we are particularly excited by hosting the very first silversmithing exhibition at the new Goldsmiths’ Centre in Clerkenwell this July.

“We consider that there have rarely been more fine silversmiths working in Britain at the same time. When we exhibited in Europe recently the pundits were amazed by the quantity and quality of the silversmiths’ work we displayed. There truly is a renaissance of British silversmithing at the moment,” Gordon Hamme MD of British Silver Week.

Goldsmiths’ Centre Exhibition – 10-14 July
This is the very first silversmithing event at the brand new Goldsmiths’ Centre in Clerkenwell; a creative development for designer makers. The collection has been chosen by prominent dealers and collectors to demonstrate the renaissance of British silversmithing in our generation. Throughout the week, visitors can see a huge range of silver objects created by British designers, meet the makers and attend seminars by some of the curators. It is also a chance to see firsthand, the new building that will be at the heart of this creative field.

Silversmiths represented by:
• Brett Payne
• John Higgins Contemporary Silver
• Pearson Collection
• Styles Silver
• William & Son
• Seminars by John Andrew, curator of the Pearson Collection and Derek Styles of Styles Silver on Wednesday 11 July 2.00pm – 4.00pm

Now in its fifth year British Silver Week has benefited hugely from patronage and sponsorship by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths’ as a lead patron the UK Assay Offices, trade organizations, the Duke of Devonshire and Lord Cunliffe.

The original launch at Goldsmiths’ Hall set the tone for British Silver Week in 2008. Over 40,000 people saw a major exhibition in 2009 at Chatsworth House, the home of the Duke of Devonshire, a renowned contemporary silver collector. In the last four years 65 selling exhibitions in England, Scotland and Wales, Germany and Malaysia have sold more than £1 million of contemporary silverware.

After the successful exhibition in Kuala Lumpur and Penang last year with the retailer OE Jewellery, BSW is looking to take part in further international exhibitions this year.

BSW exhibited at the Inhorgenta international trade fair held from 10-13 February 2012 in Munich. This premier European trade fair has the renowned ‘New Designers Forum’; a specially designed exhibition area where international retailers and galleries can discuss sales and exhibitions. The Pearson Collection is being featured at the Goldsmiths’ Centre from 10-14 July, it is one of Britain’s largest privately held post-war silver collections.
