This issue sees the popular Heritage Pages return with two features, one of the sad closing down of the Brown Lion at 18 Hall Street, but on the positive side the building has seen a major refurbishment and those rather awkward looking windows upstairs have been balanced out and is now a credit to the street scene in Hall Street, following the shop front guides and other guidelines for the Jewellery Quarter Conservation area.
One nice touch I have seen in another conservation area is the fact that it is a ‘conservation area’ shown on all the street name plates.
The Jewellery Quarter Heritage website has also had a makeover and is working again on Issue 3 of Jewellery Quarter Heritage magazine and should be ready in a matter of weeks now rather than months. A major part of the delay is of course, the sad passing of Marie Haddleton over 1 year and 9 months ago who loved the Jewellery Quarter so much.
Work is progressing on re-cataloguing all the historical items and photos into one system, digitising a lot of it, and also more research. Also nice to see more businesses adding a historical bit about their companies on their web sites, if you have I will more then likely be in touch, but with so many perhaps you would like to share with me so I can then share it in The Hockley Flyer, and in the Jewellery Quarter Heritage magazine and web site now rather than waiting for me…
