Hope you are enjoying the looking back section featuring The Hockley Flyers from 40, 30 and 20 years ago.
Never really thought when the magazine started that early issues would be historical items in their own right, with a back issue (then new) preserved at JW Evans Silver Factory museum in their office.
Interestingly the Hockley flyer advertising rates were published in the August 2002 issue and shows the advertising colour rates are the same as now with a full page at £130. Admittedly there were hardly any colour adverts back then but as years progressed so did the colour adverts and the quality of design. There is still one small advert from those days in black and white within these very pages.
The internet plays a crucial role with the magazine today but as print seems to stay around the same prices, everything else has soared in price, and the web hosting company has last month increased its prices by 50%.
Whilst having managed to contain most of the ‘cost of living crisis’ price increases, that latest price increase means that after 30 years The Hockley Flyer will have to increase its prices, but only by around 10% to continue to offer the same service.
If the average rise per year in prices of 3.09% was used, a full-page advert should now cost £250.51 per issue over 12 months booking. OUCH! Do not worry, the adverts price increase will be nowhere near that!
