Ghalamzani Metal Engraving Workshop with Hadi Ghahramanpouri.
This workshop introduces participants to the traditional art of Ghalamzani metal engraving on copper. Participants will be taught how to hold and handle the required tools correctly, learning step by step how to work into the copper along their chosen patterns.
Participants will be able to get a taste of Ghalamzani metal engraving and will create a sample piece within the session. By using thin copper sheets (0.1mm), the engraving can easily be done with a chisel. Ghalamzani metal engraving can often use processes such as moulding with bitumen, continuous hammering, or controlled heating. However, in this taster workshop, a simplified approach enables participants to complete their own piece during the workshop and take it home at the end, while still gaining an introduction to the techniques and appreciation of the craft.
Metal engraving is both enjoyable and rewarding, with this workshop offering a hands-on experience of an ancient craft.
