Laugh-Able: Enabling the Disabled

Blue Orange Arts (the resident charity at the Blue Orange Theatre) are extremely excited to announce their upcoming project ‘Laugh-Able: Enabling the Disabled’ as funded by Awards for All – Big Lottery.

The project seeks to work with adults with physical disabilities in providing them with 10 FREE comedy workshops. The workshops will use comedy techniques, drama, writing, devising, improvising and role play exercises to facilitate the participants in self-expression, development of self-confidence, communication skills and motivation.

The project seeks to provide participants with a range of comedy skills which will lead to increased chances of attaining employment or further training.

The focus of the project is to address issues around social exclusion, disability, isolation, unemployment, mental health, language barriers and culture divisions in an enjoyable and relaxed environment.

The workshops will take place from Wednesday 11th June until Saturday 12th July at the Blue Orange Theatre, 118 Great Hampton Street, Birmingham B18 6AD.

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
