OBITUARY – Laurie Wylde

(Frank Joiner – Big Peg)

In loving memory of Mr Laurie Wylde (known as Mr Frank Joiner) who sadly passed away on 8th May 2021 peacefully at the RUH in Bath.
He was lucky to enjoy a full and healthy life sustained by a daily glass of red wine through to the very end, aged 89, and surrounded by his family in Bath.’

For much of his life he was part of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter and known to many for running the local newsagent and stationery store in the Big Peg. It was like an Aladdin’s cave and the ‘go to place’ for the local jewellers.

Even though he moved to Worcester on his retirement in 1995 and then onto Bath in 2011, he never forgot his time in Birmingham. He often spoke about the old times, the lovely characters, and friends he had made in the Quarter.

Laurie’s kind heart, smile and willingness to please will be missed by all his family and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Pamela in 2005. He is survived by his children Nicholas and Corrinda and grandson Kieran.
There was a small family cremation held on the 10th of June and a Memorial Service at Holy Trinity Church, Cold Ashton on the 2nd of July, by invitation. Family flowers only.

The Hockley Flyer magazine is entirely funded by the advertising, but could do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Subscribers pay only a bit more than the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
