Obituary – Gordon Clarke

A familiar face in the Jewellery Quarter for the last 50 years has sadly passed away. Gordon Clarke started his working life in January 1959 when he joined Edward Baker & Son in Augusta Street.

He saw many changes over the years, both in the Quarter itself and in the company, which later became Yard 0 Led Pencil Co.

He was 65 in December and had just completed his 50th year of continual service and in fact worked right up until the day before he passed away very suddenly.

Gordon was one of the old school of jewellery craftsmen and learned his trade over the first 25 years and then took on the responsibility of developing a lot of the new products that brought the company so much success over the past 25 years.

He lived within walking distance of the Jewellery Quarter for all of his life. Everyone who knew him and worked with him will miss him so much and the company will not be the same without him.

Yard 0 Led Pencil Co’, 95 Spencer Street, Hockley.

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
