The British Academy of Jewellery is accepting applications for its BA (Hons) Jewellery Design & Production degree, starting in September 2022.

Structured around a fast-paced, hands-on programme, our three-year degree course, validated by the University of Kingston School of Art, will provide students with rigorous training in practical jewellery making skills and professional practice, giving them a substantial foundation in technique, design and theory.

Teaching places strong emphasis on creative theory, encouraging students to think creatively, experiment and innovate, while grounding their practice in a cross-disciplinary understanding of jewellery and its intellectual, historical, and cultural context.

As a specialist jewellery institution, the British Academy of Jewellery is uniquely placed to develop the essential practical design and manufacture skills often neglected by other BA courses. Taught by practising jewellers, students will have access to professional-quality tools and workshop spaces. Here, they will be encouraged to give free rein to their creativity as they build a comprehensive jewellery skillset and experiment both traditional and emerging materials, technologies, and processes.

Graduates of the course will therefore leave the British Academy of Jewellery as highly skilled makers and independent thinkers with a portfolio of jewellery creations that will allow them to enter the jewellery sector, start their own brands, or pursue either further study or careers in the broader creative industry.

“Our BA (Hons) Jewellery Design & Production is a one-of-a-kind programme in that it aims to cultivate students’ own creativity and commercial and contextual knowledge, while also providing them with the all-important practical skills they need to bring their original ideas to life,” said Kate Rieppel, Head of Academy at the British Academy of Jewellery.
“As our flagship higher education course, our BA (Hons) programme reflects our ongoing commitment to providing our students with an innovative jewellery education that equips them with a strong transferable design skillset, while also confirming our status as a leading institution in our field.”

The British Academy of Jewellery’s BA (Hons) Jewellery Design & Production is validated by Kingston University, which ranked top in the country for design and crafts in the 2021 Guardian University Guide league table.
