Birmingham Assay Office host a successful careers event

The Birmingham Assay Office host a successful careers event for apprentices, students, hobbyists, graduates of the jewellery trade.

Over 100 students made their way to the Birmingham Assay Office to attend a free careers event. Students engaged with various exhibitors such as Argentium Silver, Signet, Weston Beamor, and the National Association of Jewellers. Students also signed up to listen to guest speakers throughout the day and heard from Marie Brennan from the Birmingham Assay Office, Marie Chalmers from Chalmers Gems, Peter Crump from Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council and Claire Price from Birmingham City University.

Attendees were also privileged to see this year’s award-winning pieces from the Goldsmiths Craft and Design Council Award Exhibition, as well as past Birmingham based winners. Small groups were given a behind the scenes tour of the Hallmarking floor as well as an opportunity to ‘have a go’ at hallmarking themselves.

Naomi Wilson, from the British Academy of Jewellery, said: “This was a great event. It was really nice connecting with the industry and those with an interest in joining. Also, a really good opportunity for our learners to engage with the organisations and businesses in the jewellery trade. Would be nice to have this as an annual event and have even more organisations involved.”

Businesses interested in exhibiting at the next careers event, please register your interest and email .
