Britain in Bloom – Planting in St Paul’s Churchyard

Green fingered volunteers from The Birmingham Assay Office recently gave up their lunch time to work under the watchful supervision of experienced gardeners from Birmingham City Council (Emma and Mike) to plant up the wonderful containers – some bearing the world famous Anchor symbol – the Hallmark of The Birmingham Assay Office – which can be seen lining St Paul’s Churchyard, in St Paul’s Square, Birmingham.

The planting should have settled in good time for the Britain In Bloom judging which takes place on 15th July.

Volunteers from The Birmingham Assay Office included: Olivia Turner, Sophie Whitehouse, Penny J. Parkes, Debbie Tillison, Toni Collins, Tim Smith, Michael Evans, Ian Hodges and Ian Bayley.

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
