In order to keep costs down we now use Royal Mail to deliver those magazines outside the Jewellery Quarter and those a bit off the beaten track – on the edges of the JQ. One time we used to post nearly all of them, but prices changed so much over the last few years that postage is more per copy of the magazine than the printing. If anything – printing has gone down in price, but just about all other costs to do with the magazine have soared sky high.
All the years we have put the magazine around the Jewellery Quarter, there have been very few copies left littering the streets, or at least I have not seen many, probably 3 or 4 in over 35 years, and those probably accidentally dropped out of careless readers pockets.
Something new happened last month – I was dropping off 10 copies to one of the central bars in the heart of the JQ, when a copy of the latest issue I was about to put on the shelf was already there! How did that get there? It’s usually the other way round as no-one likes taking the last copy of the previous month and is usually that dog eared you can’t even open the pages!
Obviously, someone picked up a latest copy and left it behind as I was distributing it around the streets, or is it the curse of the ‘Phantom Flyer Flinger’?.
