I heard a rumour about the possibility of a new Science Museum for Birmingham which at first, I laughed at but a couple of days later a press release outlining proposals appeared in my inbox. ‘Birmingham: City of Ideas’: Developing a new Museum of Science & Industry proposition, and the development of an international flagship museum of science and industry in Birmingham’s city centre.
Wonder where it will be built, but the council reckon it could attract one million visitors, contributing £30m to the city and region via tourism and fundamentally increasing engagement in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) via social history, and would also reflect the diversity of Birmingham and its heritage.
Perhaps they should never have knocked the old one down in Newhall Street, and what will happen to the ‘Think Tank’?
