Event Details

For the first time since 2017, we see The Universal return to Brum.
The Universal are a four piece band from the North West of England. Born out of working class frustration they are equal parts fire, skill, swagger, attitude and energy. They may tip their hat to The Small Faces, The Who, The Beatles and The Kinks but they bring things right up to now with their own distinctive and innovative style.
They are renowned for their passionate and energetic live shows having played hundreds of live shows. They’ve played with everyone from Ian McLagan and Joe Strummer, to Ocean Colour Scene, Trio Valore, Steve Cradock, The Chords, The View, The Proclaimers, Secret Affair, The Real People ,From The Jam and The Zombies.
They’ve won awards for Best Album at the Galaxy Awards and have also been voted Best Live Band by Rock Realms. Leads singer Terry Shaughnessy and The Universal have also worked with producer Winston Rollins, The Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra and with Tim Holmes of Death In Vegas
For many of us, seeing The Universal again is the return of old friends, for those who haven’t you are in for a real treat.

Principal support comes from local favourites The Good Water.
The Good Water’s fuzz fuelled guitar riffs, raw vintage organs and hypnotic drum beats, lay the foundations for their own unique style of psychedelic, indie, pop. Since forming in 2016, the lads quickly picked up local support from Brum Radio and gained fans at raucous shows around the Midlands. They blew audiences away supporting Mercury Rev, Super Fury Animals and Bill Ryder-Jones.
The trio’s brand of psychedelic indie rock grooves, phased analogue delay, and fuzzed up guitar riffs, is streamlined into tight retro-pop framework. Press has also been quick to spot their singles with rave reviews from tastemaker blogs and magazines. The bands singles have been strongly supported by Steve Lamacq and his 6 Music team. The tracks also secured plays from Radcliffe & Maconie and Tom Robinson on 6 Music. “If you like old school 60’s psych, bands like The Coral, you’ll love this.” – Steve Lamacq BBC 6 Music The band have picked up a number of tour supports including Canadian blues rockers The Sheepdogs. Selling out venues such as the The Workman’s Club – Dublin, The Fleece – Bristol, The Globe – Cardiff and Lafayette – London. Closer to home, The Good Water are consistently selling out headline shows in Birmingham and building up a strong fanbase. Steve Lamacq is a big fan of the band describing them as “if you like old school 60’s psych bands like The Coral, you’ll love this”
