Museum of the Jewellery Quarter

The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter is extending into the adjacent two-storey building, 80 Vyse Street. In over 70 square metres of additional exhibition space, the Museum will create new displays dedicated to the history of the Jewellery Quarter, refreshing and updating original themes.

The displays will trace the growth of the Jewellery Quarter, identify the key institutions that have shaped the area, such as the Assay Office and School of Jewellery, and showcase the vast range of items manufactured locally.

Modern innovations in technology, the impact of foreign competition and the resurgence of residential properties are all subjects which will be included.

On the ground floor, a new temporary exhibition space will be accessible from the shop/reception area.

Here a programme of changing exhibitions will provide scope for a range of shows including historical exhibitions about the Quarter, displays showcasing the work of contemporary designer makers and partnership projects with local groups and organisations.

The galleries will open towards the end of this year. We would like to involve local people in creating the new displays so that we present a true picture of the area. If you are willing to share stories about your firm or memories of working or living in the Quarter, we would be pleased to hear from you. Please contact Victoria Emmanuel or Laura Cox on (0121) 554 3598.

The Museum will remain open throughout the duration of the building works.
