THE GREAT DEBATE AT IJL – Monday 5th September
The fifth Great Debate, initiated and facilitated by The Birmingham Assay Office, in partnership with IJL will take place in the Inspiration Theatre at IJL on Monday 5th September from 11.15-12.30. The objective of the Great Debate has always been to provoke thought and prompt action towards a more ethically and socially responsible global jewellery industry.

This year is no exception – The Birmingham Assay Office will report positive news and some inspiring pioneers will be there to tell their own story. Stephen Webster will explain his personal involvement with Fairtrade Fairmined Gold and show a film documenting the conditions he found during a recent visit to the mines of Peru.

President of CIBJO, The World Jewellery Confederation, Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri will explain the role of the new CIBJO Corporate Social Responsibility Centre of Excellence in Antwerp, and Catherine Sproule, Director of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) will profile some companies who have now achieved accreditation to the RJC exacting standards. The Debate, chaired by Michael Allchin, Chief Executive of The Birmingham Assay Office will then be open to the audience to question the speakers as to the challenges and solutions they have faced in delivering the projects so far.

Come along and air your views. As always, The Birmingham Assay Office is here to help you sell more….. We look forward to seeing you at IJL on stand H109
