New Sheffield Assay Office Opens

After 235 years in Sheffield, Sheffield Assay Office has marked a new beginning by moving across the city to brand new, purpose-built headquarters.

Covering more than 33,000 sq feet, the new Sheffield Assay Office represents a landmark in the organisation’s development, providing leading-edge production facilities and streamlined operations on one floor.

Sheffield Assay Master Ashley Carson comments “It had long been a vision of ours to have our production and laboratory services on one floor so when the opportunity arose to acquire a site for a new-build Assay Office, we seized it!

The growth of our analytical and laboratory services was driving the need for more room, but we could also see ways in which we could significantly enhance our hallmarking services given the opportunity to design our processes without the restrictions of an existing building.”

Sheffield Assay Office has worked closely with process engineers from Sheffield Hallam University to design systems which enhance efficiency and turn-around in all areas of the operation and already the benefits are being felt by customers across the country.

“This is an exciting time for us” says Ashley Carson, “We are the only Assay office to have all our production facilities on one floor. Our hallmarking and laser marking operations have become even more efficient and we have been able to integrate more of the latest technology to meet demand in growth areas such as metals and materials analysis.”

Sheffield Assay Office is now offering a daily collection service from Birmingham and London, combining convenience with cost-effectiveness. For more details of this service, customers can speak to Hilary Theaker on 0114 231 8152. The new Sheffield Assay Office website also provides full details of the wide range of services offered, together with information sheets and price lists to download at www.assayoffice.co.uk.

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
