Obituary – Kenneth Hughes

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Kenneth Hughes (1929 – 2009).

When the history of the Jewellery Quarter first came to the notice of tourists and visitors, Ken was for many years the Quarter’s main Tourist Guide.

Several times per week and sometimes even several times per day Ken was a familiar sight leading his crocodile of visitors around with his furled umbrella held high, telling them all about the history of the Quarter and keeping them amused by adding many anecdotes of his own.

A few years ago Ken gave up his ‘talks and walks’ and concentrated on working at the ‘Back-to-Back’ houses in Inge Street.

Ken was 80 years old and died on the 26th August 2009. The funeral was on 15th September.

Kindest thoughts to Ken’s family and friends from everyone in The Jewellery Quarter.
