Sew Confident Birmingham

The UK’s only sewing tuition franchise, Sew Confident opened their first Birmingham studio to help people sew, de-stress and be social on 1st December!

‘Sew Confident will teach you how to make everything from your own trench coat or your new favourite jeans, to modern quilts and home furnishings that will make your friends weep with envy, but our focus is actually on the social and the de-stressing elements of the hobby just as much as the teaching!’

‘With modern life requiring people to constantly multi-task, our customers find that even after work they are wired to technology with the TV on, a laptop on their knee and their phone in their hand which can impact negatively on their mental health. Increasingly, they are turning to crafts such as sewing as a way to focus their brain on one task, to create a state of ‘low’ that has been scientifically proven to de-stress and relax people. According to positive psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi,’low’ is a state of complete immersion in an activity. He describes the mental state of flow as “being completely involved in an activity for its own sake.”

‘One of our customers from the Glasgow studio Laura Lam says, “In the words of a fellow sewing friend ‘I found my tribe’. It has turned my mental health around; it should be prescribed by the doctor. I feel accepted and like I have a place in the world now. I would never have said I was creative until I found Sew Confident. Finally, I know who I am!”’

You can find them in the Jewellery Quarter, 2nd Floor, 84E Vyse street, Birmingham, B18 6HA. Classes can be booked online at www.sewconfident.com/sewing-classes-in-birmingham.
