The ‘Virgin Rainbow’

Recently the world’s most valuable opal (worth over $1 million) has been unearthed in the mining region of South Australia and will be on display to the public for the first time in September.

Our ‘older’ readers will recall the feature on Opals in the Hockley Flyer some years ago which came about when the ‘Opal Man’ called in to see us – he was walking around the Quarter with over one million worth of opals in his case.

The gems were absolutely beautiful and were mined in an area called Lightning Ridge in Australia.

We have always maintained it was one of most attractive issues.

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
