Saturday, May 25, 2024 – A Boon for Students

A new website for second hand jewellery tools – was the idea of Martyn and Pat Thatcher; both have Art degrees and both have been students at the Birmingham School of Jewellery.

“We realised how expensive it could be for people starting in jewellery to get tools and could find nowhere specialising in second hand jewellery tools and equipment.” is an attempt to address this.

Conceived initially to fill a need for people in The Jewellery Quarter, its uncomplicated website is independent, with no links to any of the big data gatherers.

“As a new facility, not yet advertised, it is currently a bit sparse. However we sincerely believe that as it comes to the attention of craftspeople, many will feel able to offer their unused tools to aspiring jewellers.”

If you are a craftsperson you might consider selling some tools or equipment that you no longer use – tools which could then continue to play their part in the creation of beautiful jewellery.

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
