A Surprise Visit to Assay Office Birmingham via Social Media

Stephen Goldsmith @goldpolisher and his students attending a 4 day polishing course at Birmingham School of Jewellery @SoJ_BCU took a short walk from the school to Assay Office Birmingham at lunchtime on 24 June and were treated to a guided tour of the assaying (testing) and hallmarking floors.

This all came about from a simple image of a closed Assay Office Birmingham Trade Counter Door being tweeted by Stephen the evening before – expressing a wish to see inside.

“We tweeted back and invited him to come down during his lunch break to have a look round and so keen was he that he bought all his students along too!

We hope they had an enjoyable and informative visit.”

They all left with one of our brand new button badges – made in Birmingham by Thomas Fattorini.
