The author is a Sri Lankan born writer who is a British qualified gemmologist. Having completed a two year course on geology at the University of Sri Lanka (Moratuwa campus) early 1970s, he wrote his first book in 1975 on Mineralogy of Sri Lanka.
He is a well known writer on books on Gems and the Gem Industry of Sri Lanka who has been working in the gemmological activities for the last 37 years.
He is a fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain and a fellow of the Geological Society of London.
He is also holding a post diploma in gem diamonds offered by the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. He is a freelance lecturer on gemmology.
He has been living in England since 1980 and he is the sole proprietor of ‘ Sri Lanka Gems’, based in London. He has been organising an annual exhibition on the Sri Lanka Gem Industry in the UK entitled ‘Island of Gems’. The 12th annual exhibition of ‘Island of Gems’ will be held in London in November 2007.
