Chamberlain Clock Restoration News

Kate of JQBIDS has reported that restoration work to the Chamberlain Clock is proceeding to schedule.

The photographs have been provided by Smith of Derby which shows the clock tower undergoing work in their workshop and beginning to look very smart.

In March 2021, the clock is due to return to the spot it has occupied on the tiny island at the junction of Warstone Lane, Vyse Street and Frederick Street since 1903, but it has undergone several restoration projects over the years, including being painted both green and blue and during WW2 had the lights and chimes removed to comply with wartime regulations.

The Hockley Flyer magazine is entirely funded by the advertising, but could do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Subscribers pay only a bit more than the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
