Don’t Get Caught Out This Christmas

Jewellery is the ultimate personal Christmas gift and with precious metal prices at a record high it is more important than ever, that shoppers know they are getting what they pay for when they buy fine jewellery.

The UK Hallmark, which must be applied to all except very lightweight gold, silver, platinum and palladium jewellery provides this guarantee.

During November and December The Birmingham Assay Office is running a consumer hallmarking campaign in the Midlands and in December will also feature a hallmarking awareness campaign in association with Smooth Radio 105.7FM

The campaign will aim to increase consumers understanding of the value of hallmarking. It will explain that when buying fine jewellery this festive season – “make sure you ask to see the hallmarks – they are your guarantee of the precious metal content.”

There must be at least THREE different marks to be a full legal UK hallmark.

Buyers – can download a consumer guide to understanding hallmarks at

Retailers – for more information call 0871 871 6020 or email

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
