Editorial December 2020

2020 has been a very horrid and worrying year and many are facing hard times, it would have been relatively easy for the Hockley Flyer to sit back and cancel issues, or just put on-line – especially during Lockdown periods.
But instead, we have not only produced all 12 issues, but managed to squeeze an extra one into the monthly schedule. None of this, of course, would have been possible without the exceptional support of our advertisers, for which we are extremely grateful.

Events Chaos
In some ways we have actually been busier than ever in 2020, adding loads of events to our Events Page and then having to remove them all again as they were cancelled before we had even published them! Very frustrating for us, and even more so for anyone trying to organise anything – 2020 must go down as the year of disorganisation as well!
This issue we have done likewise and postponed the Events pages as many events are still being cancelled, postponed and some rescheduled for the umpteenth time. So much so that a monthly publication cannot keep up to date with all that is going on – or not going on.
So please check out our events web site where we DO stand some chance of keeping it up to date

New Next Year
The Hockley Flyer has two interesting new features in 2021, one of which we have started with the old Assay Office building and its new extension. We are hoping to catch up with completed projects we may have missed, those underway and those coming up.
Also, we will be looking at where businesses have gone. Sometimes disappearing out of the JQ usually to make way for housing (but not always) does not always mean they have vanished; in fact, some have turned up in some surprising locations…

Marie & Mark at The Hockley Flyer wish all our Advertisers, Readers, Supporters, & Subscribers as Happy a Christmas as possible in these difficult times, and a much ‘Improved’ 2021.

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
