Editorial February 2024

Last months editorial I said I hoped to include more stuff from our archives, but space and time was against me and that has not happened, but it is pencilled in for future issues.

Revisiting The Hockley Flyers printed 40, 30 and 20 years ago is stirring quite a few memories, some stuff I had totally forgotten about, but also the same old problems. One of our first readers letters is about dogs fouling the pavements, and 40 years later, still happening but I think overall to a slightly lesser degree. Back then there was no real incentives for people to clean up after their dogs.

I hope you are enjoying the new section and brings back some memories. I had forgotten there used to be a travel agents by the Chamberlain clock amongst many other things I will be uncovering as the series continues, showing how things have changed in the JQ and how other things never change!

This issue marks the 150th issue thats availabe to download and read from our web site.

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
