Message from St Paul’s Church

‘St Paul’s Church has now raised well over £20,000 thanks to the generosity of the Jewellery Quarter Community. Our Diocesan Surveyor has suggested a way of making St Paul’s watertight and doing temporary repairs to the guttering, but having had to close the church indefinitely, progress is now delayed.

We also have to get permission to do the work. As St Paul’s Church is Grade 1 listed this is required- but we are some way down the road in getting this as well.

The real worry for us – and all the heritage buildings in the JQ – is loss of revenue which is very concerning. All of us work with very tight margins and are having to be very careful in setting budgets that will see us through this crisis. However, this will not stop us filling St Paul’s Church with flowers and offering the warmest of welcome when we open those great West Doors again!

We are all having to suffer social isolation at the moment – and have ever increasing empathy with you!

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
