New President for RBSA

Steve Evans from Wolverhampton has been elected as the new President of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA). He takes over from Wayne Attwood.

Steve is anticipating being busy in his new role.

“There are some plans,” he reveals. “Firstly, we are intending to embark on a refurbishment project to enhance our gallery in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. That has been brewing for some considerable time, but we should be starting in March 2022. Secondly, we will be carrying out a review of our Constitution with a view to diversifying the range of artists in the Society and who exhibit with us in our open exhibitions.

“These are both rather large tasks, and the Constitution will likely lead to some lengthy discussions!”

There will also be an exhibition celebrating the role of women in the RBSA, which was established in 1821. This is set to coincide with the Commonwealth Games in the city and will mark the Queen’s 70th wedding anniversary.

The Hockley Flyer magazine is entirely funded by the advertising, but could do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Subscribers pay only a bit more than the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
