We were saddened to hear that Shena Mason of Solihull, passed away peacefully at the Marie-Curie Hospice on 31st January 2014, following a long and hard-fought illness.
Shena will be remembered as one time editor of the British Jeweller Magazine and an enthusiastic local historian and writer.
Shena was a great supporter of the Jewellery Quarter and The Assay Office and leaves a legacy of work which will help to inform and educate current and future generations.
After a long career associated with the Birmingham jewellery trade Shena worked for Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery on the development of the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, and then on Soho House.
She was a founder member of Birmingham Heritage Forum and a local history author, and has written guide-books to Soho House, Blakesley Hall and Sarehole Mill as well as contributing to books on Boulton and Priestley amongst others, plus material to the website: www.revolutionaryplayers.org.uk, and a chapter on the Russell family to Joseph Priestley and Birmingham.
Shena was the beloved wife of 53 years to Colin, and mother to John and Fiona. A celebration of Shena’s life was held at Robin Hood Crematorium, Solihull on 18th February.
