About the Young Curators

‘We are four second year students studying History of Art at the University of Birmingham and are very pleased to take part in the Young Curators project at the RBSA Gallery.

It has given us the opportunity to work with renowned ceramics expert, David Whiting, and has provided unique first-hand experience of curating a public exhibition. In addition, the Gallery is ideal for the presentation of ceramics since it is one of the few naturally lit galleries in the centre of Birmingham’

The Art of Clay aims to convey the range of ceramic work being produced by artists in Britain today and to highlight the importance and diversity of clay as an art medium. It showcases abstract, figurative, and functional forms in a variety of styles, subject matter, and techniques. The majority of works on display are for sale, with prices starting from £35.

Emerging and internationally renowned artists are included: Michelle Arieu, Beverly Bell-Hughes, Dylan Bowen, Neil Brownsword, Nic Collins, Rob Hand ARBSA, Peter Lewis, Andrew Matheson RBSA, Kate McBride, June Ridgway ARBSA, James Robson, Emma Rogers, Daniel Smith, Annie Turner, James and Tilla Waters, and Jon Williams.

Demonstrations and events: Andrew Matheson RBSA will be giving a free clay demonstration on Saturday 27 April (11.00am – 1.00pm and 2.00 – 4.00pm). There will also be a celebratory event from 2.00 – 4.00pm. All are welcome. www.rbsa.org.uk
