As many of you know, in December 2002 the Crime Fighting Team introduced a Retail Radio scheme to the Jewellery Quarter. Together with the JQRP and JQA meetings were held and subsequently the scheme is now a resounding success. We have not had a major incident in the area since (touch wood)!
We currently have 37 radios on the Jewellery Quarter frequency and more joining every month. The majority of the radios are rented by jewellery retailers – however we also have on board British Waterways and the JQ Museum.
We have recently been joined by the business community of St Paul’s Square which just goes to show that the scheme is not exclusively for jewellers but for anyone who may be concerned for their own safety or that of the community and would like to be in touch with each other and the local police.
Pc Michele Birch has arranged an informal meeting (details below) for anyone who may be interested and would like to know more, to come along and see the scheme in operation and to talk to the police about it: Wednesday 6th August 2003 5pm-6pm, Elliott’s Coffee Lounge, Frederick Street
