BAJ and Fuli Gemstones present glittering peridot

To showcase innovative designs by the next generation of jewellers alongside the glittering possibilities of peridot, the British Academy of Jewellery and Fuli Gemstones recently held an exhibition in London. Members of the press attended the jewellery showcase which presented the culmination of BAJ and Fuli Gemstones’ joint jewellery manufacturing project.

The jewellery on display was designed and manufactured by BAJ Jewellery Design and Manufacturing Diploma students using peridot stones generously donated by Fuli Gemstones.

The students researched the long and vibrant history of peridot to each design a piece of jewellery which reinterpreted peridot’s legacy through a modern lens and used professional stone setting techniques to display the stone in a unique way.

The joint project gave BAJ students the opportunity to work with a real industry brief and gain valuable, practical insights into the jewellery industry as they worked with Fuli gemstones’ dazzling stones. The project is one of the numerous initiatives BAJ runs to ensure their students gain the industry knowledge and skills to succeed in jewellery upon graduation.

“The team at Fuli Gemstones were so happy to be able to help and collaborate with the final year BAJ students, through the company’s donation of peridot gemstones,” said Fuli Gemstones CMO Pia Tonna. “Fuli’s brief to the students was simple, to not hamper creativity, ‘be inspired by the history and mystery of peridot’. Fuli’s mission is to educate the next generation of jewellery designers on its natural peridot, collaborating with designers to create innovative jewellery, set with Fuli’s peridot, the results of all the students’ work was extremely gratifying.”

“The British Academy of Jewellery are so grateful for the incredible generosity of Fuli Gemstones in our recent collaborative project,” said British Academy of Jewellery’s Jewellery Diplomas Programme Lead Sally Collins. “Level 5 students were all gifted a stunning Peridot gemstone to include in their jewellery pieces, and to inspire their designs; the resulting work is bold, innovative, beautifully crafted and above all, represents each student’s unique interpretation of the story of peridot. Opportunities to work with key industry partners such as Fuli Gemstones are so important to our students, in order to help them gain understanding of how the real-life jewellery industry works, and to aid their professional development. BAJ is looking forward to showcasing this peridot collection alongside other examples of the Level 5 student work at the BAJ Final Show in July- this is definitely a group of budding jewellery designs to watch!”
