Birmingham Science Museum Celebrated in Art

A film chronicling the life and times of Birmingham’s Science Museum was premiered recently. Property developer RO St Bernards has appointed five artists to produce works which will ensure the museum’s legacy lives on in words, pictures, film and on-line.

More than 200 people, drawn from Birmingham’s business and arts communities, attended the first event. A booklet, which documents some of the 2,000 items salvaged from the museum following its re-location to Think-tank, was also launched.

The short film ‘Museum’ (by Ravi Deepres) features Marie Haddleton and Wing Commander George Hanson. Marie talks about her memories of the museum and what it meant to the children of Birmingham and George talks about Spitfires, etc.

There have been two champagne events held inside the now derelict main hall of the Museum – one was the ‘official launch’ and the other was ‘Stuff and Nonsense’ an art event by Alistair Grant and Stuart Mugridge – part of the Museum of Lost Heritage art programme and part of Architecture Week 2007.
