BJA Launches IJL Diamond Design Competition

The BJA is running a diamond jewellery design competition to celebrate the 60th Anniversary Edition of International Jewellery London which will take place at Olympia from 6-8 September, 2015.

All UK companies exhibiting at this year’s show are eligible to enter the competition and are being invited to put forward a piece of diamond jewellery, of whatever type they wish, providing that it will form part of the display on their stand at this year’s IJL and that it incorporates exactly 60 points of diamonds – one for each year that IJL has been in business.

Pieces need not have been created especially for the competition, but they should nevertheless have been designed with the theme of celebration in mind and should also evoke a sense of occasion and have real creative flair.

The 60 pts of diamond they contain can be split in any way the entrant wishes – for example as a number of small stones, two or three stones, or as one large stone – and pieces can be manufactured in any precious, or non-precious materials of their choosing.

Entries can be submitted as actual product, as to-scale drawing or as a CAD renders and entry forms and full details are available now from the BJA website www.bja.org.uk and from IJL’s website www.jewellerylondon.com

The competition will be judged by an expert panel including: Helen Dimmick, managing director of jewellery retailer Green & Benz, the luxury, bespoke jewellery designer David Marshall and Justine Carmody, who has recently been appointed Production and Development Director at Stephen Webster, as well as representatives from the BJA and IJL.

Speaking about the competition, IJL Show Director, Sam Willoughby said: “Browsing through the BJA library last week was a real insight in to the past 60 years of IJL.

Over the decades, the quality of pieces showcased at IJL just gets better and better. So for IJL’s Diamond Jubilee Edition, what greater way to celebrate than the opportunity to create a unique and exciting piece of jewellery that will commemorate this special occasion.”

Her view is echoed by the BJA’s chief executive Simon Rainer who commented: “There is always plenty of high-quality, diamond jewellery from British companies on show at IJL and we hope that this competition will help to highlight the best of the best and bring an added sparkle to the show as it celebrates its Diamond Edition.”

The competition closes on 1st May, 2015. The winning company, and two highly-commended businesses, will be informed by Friday 8th May and the winning designs must be fully made-up and available for photography by 1st July in order for the organisers to capitalise fully on pre-show promotional opportunities.
