In The Beginning…

In 1990 (during a stormy time with parking issues) the Jewellery Quarter Association was formed.

The launch of the Association was held at an Exhibition in Peel House, Carver Street and this photo shows: L/R Doug Timmis (previous Bank Manager at Barclays Bank and Founder Director/Treasurer of the JQA) – now a co-opted director, Marie Haddleton (Hon. President/Hon. Secretary and Membership Secretary, Albert Bore (now ‘Sir Albert Bore’ – at that time Leader of Birmingham City Council and Elliott Press who was the first Chairman of the Association and helped set up the JQA.

The JQA have achieved many things since 1990 and, almost unbelievably, are still ‘fighting the fight’ on Parking issues!

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
