Understanding Jewellery Valuations – Now Booking

Following requests to provide a one day introductory course to enable delegates to “Understand Jewellery Valuations”, The Education & Training Division of The Birmingham Assay Office is pleased to announce that bookings are now open for this new course.

This course is ideal for anyone with an interest in the value of jewellery. This includes jewellery retailers, pawnbrokers, auctioneers and those involved in consumer complaints or insurance replacement. It is expected that delegates have some experience of jewellery and gemstones.

The intensive one day course will give delegates confidence and knowledge, providing an understanding of the methodology and many different approaches required to produce a fair jewellery valuation, appropriate to its intended use. Basic diamond, coloured gemstone and metal pricing will be discussed and delegates will examine items of jewellery for assessment.

The course also includes a unique behind the scenes tour of the Hallmarking floor at The Birmingham Assay Office – an area not normally open to the trade or public, and provides seven hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity.

The course will be delivered by David Byrne who is a member of the Institute of Registered Valuers. As an independent jewellery valuer he spreads his time between producing jewellery valuations for SafeGuard at The Birmingham Assay Office, valuing antiques for auction houses, and delivering courses for Birmingham City University at the School of Jewellery as a visiting lecturer.

David’s many roles throughout his lifelong career within the jewellery business from retail management to valuer and tutor means that he has a wide range of experience and expertise and believes in sharing his knowledge in a common sense approach in order that delegates not only get the most out of the day, but also enjoy the experience.

The dates are: Monday 10th February, Monday 24th March, Monday 7th April, Monday 19th May and Monday 23rd June 2014. The fee per delegate is £195.00 + vat
